CaST first symposium on Community Engaged Learning - Thursday 25th February 2021


The CaST team is happy to invite you to the Communities and Students Together(CaST) first symposium on Community Engaged Learning.

This free, online event, organised by Ghent University, will be an opportunity for the CaST Partners to share the first 2 outputs on Community Engaged Learning with colleagues and the wider community, and also to learn from other experts in the field, to help us plan and optimise our Engaged Learning pilot projects which are currently under development.

The symposium will take place on Thursday 25th February 2021 from 10:00 until 16:00 CET and the programme will include:

 

10:00-10:30 – Welcome and Introductions from:

·   Lindsey Anderson, University of Exeter, CaST Project Manager

·   Alex Chmelka, Philipp Pohlenz, University of Magdeburg on the CaST State of the Art Report

·   Courtney Marsh, Noel Klima, Ghent University on the CaST Cast Study Compendium

 

10:30-12:00 – Session 1: How to activate community engagement

·   Speaker: Alexis Dewaele, Ghent University: “Community problem solving with challenged youth”

·   Moderator: Noel Klima

 

12:00-12:45 – Lunch

 

12:45-2:15 – Session 2: Incorporating Engaged Learning into the curriculum

·   Speaker: Katja Rusinovic, The Hague University of Applied Science and Wilbert Hoondert, City of Delft: The City Deal on Education

·   Moderator: Lindsey Anderson

 

2:15-2:30 – Break 

 

2:30-4:00 – Session 3: Recognition and implementation of EL at the university level  

·   Speaker: Emma McKenna, The Science Shop, Queen’s University Belfast

·   Moderator: Courtney Marsh

 

               *Sessions will include a 30-minute presentation from the invited speaker followed by an hour discussion in break-out rooms and with the larger group*
